In the majority of cases once the medical treatment of hip or knee arthritis is no longer controlling the symptoms, the joint replacement surgery becomes the “final solution”. In the case of an arthritic knee one can consider partial knee replacement (typically less than 10% of the cases) or full knee replacement. In the case of an arthritic hip it is always a full hip replacement.
